A Box of Letters
LESSON PLAN:
Students will view A Box of Letters, an original production written and directed by Palmetto High School Student, Natalie Hanan. A Box of Letters presents characters who share their experiences and perspectives of The Holocaust.
SOCIAL STUDIES OR LANGUAGE ARTS
CBC: CULTURAL AWARENESS: After viewing A Box of Letters, students will discuss man's inhumanity to man as exemplified in the Holocaust and the impact of the Holocaust on the world today.
SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES:
- Students will write a compare/contrast essay for the following characters in A Box of Letters:
- Jessica/Sara
- Nazi officer's wife/Rabbi's wife
- Gypsy woman/the woman held captive by the Nazi officer.
- Think, Pair, Share: Have students write a brief reaction paper after viewing A Box of Letters. First, have the students share their responses in small groups. Then, have
the group choose one paper to share with the entire class. Discuss.
- Have students write an essay about whether or not they believe The Holocaust
Could happen again today's world.
- Have students write an essay about the world "tolerance." Ask them to explain what
It means and how we can achieve it.
- Take students on a field trip to The Holocaust Memorial on Miami Beach.
- Students can search for more information about The Holocaust on line.
- Show another film related to The Holocaust. Suggested films are:

Swing Kids
