A Box of Letters

LESSON PLAN:

Students will view A Box of Letters, an original production written and directed by Palmetto High School Student, Natalie HananA Box of Letters presents characters who share their experiences and perspectives of The Holocaust.

SOCIAL STUDIES OR LANGUAGE ARTS

CBC: CULTURAL AWARENESS:
After viewing A Box of Letters, students will discuss man's inhumanity to man as exemplified in the Holocaust and the impact of the Holocaust on the world today.

SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES:

  1. Students will write a compare/contrast essay for the following characters in A Box of Letters:

  1. Jessica/Sara

  1. Nazi officer's wife/Rabbi's wife

  1. Gypsy woman/the woman held captive by the Nazi officer.


  1. Think, Pair, Share: Have students write a brief reaction paper after viewing A Box of Letters.  First, have the students share their responses in small groups.  Then, have

the group choose one paper to share with the entire class.  Discuss.

  1. Have students write an essay about whether or not they believe The Holocaust

Could happen again today's world.

  1. Have students write an essay about the world "tolerance."  Ask them to explain what

It means and how we can achieve it.

  1. Take students on a field trip to The Holocaust Memorial on Miami Beach.


  1. Students can search for more information about The Holocaust on line.
